Skip permits

A skip on the road needs permission from the highway authority, City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. Registered skip companies request the licence online; unregistered companies are refused.

Private land is excluded from the licensing rules.

Fee: £48 per 14 days on streets over 5.5m; £48 per 6 days on narrow streets (2026-27 statutory fees). Retrospective licence for an illegal skip: £168.

At least one day's notice is needed before the skip is placed. The licensing page says skips are licensed for 14 working days, or 5 working days on streets under 4.5m wide and in the city centre, and 7 working days on Key Route Network roads. Skips must not go on double yellow lines, bus stops or no-loading zones.
