The rules for putting a skip on the road here, and where to find the 40 skip hire firms we list nearby (6 on the Environment Agency waste carrier register).

Skip permits

A skip on the road needs permission from the highway authority, South Gloucestershire Council. Download and complete the council's skip licence application form. The skip conditions place duties on both the skip owner and the hirer.

If a skip is put on private land no licence is needed.

Fee: £97.10 for a new application, £73.50 for a monthly renewal (2026 to 2027 fees); licences are granted for up to a month

Allow 5 working days for the council to process the application.
