SkipCheck lists 12 skip and grab hire firms serving Weston-super-Mare and the area around it, about 15 miles out. Between them they offer mini, midi and builder's skips in equal number, plus maxi skips, grab hire and wait-and-load. Four of the 12 are on the Environment Agency waste carrier register, checked on 6 October 2026. Only one firm publishes a starting price on its own website, though the figure isn't given here, while seven say they can deliver the same day or next day. Five say they arrange the council skip permit, and all 12 describe themselves as operators rather than booking agents.
North Somerset Council charges £86 for a skip licence, rising to £122 if less than five working days' notice is given, or £172 for a retrospective application, with licences running from one day up to 28 days. The skip company applies, not the homeowner, and should do so at least five working days before the skip is needed. Anyone paying someone to take their waste must still check the firm is allowed to carry it, or risk a council fixed penalty of between £150 and £600.
Yes, if the skip goes on the public highway. Under section 139 of the Highways Act 1980, a skip can't be placed on the road without the highway authority's permission. In Weston-super-Mare, the skip company applies to North Somerset Council, not the homeowner, and should do so at least five working days before the skip is needed. The standard fee is £86, rising to £122 with less than five working days' notice or £172 for a retrospective application.
